We have been patiently waiting to get our first Adelaide based Glee Club off the ground, and it’s finally happening. The Glee Club will be based close to Adelaide CBD at Eastwood Community Centre, and is to be headed up by the super talented and highly enthusiastic Music Director ‘Riccardo Barone’. We can not wait for him to share his magic of music and singing. Rick, as he's often better known, is a professional pianist, arranger, composer and singer who originally hailed from Italy. He has since relocated to Adelaide, South Australia and has a huge heart and passion for sharing his wisdom to those around him. We’re running a special for the month of May where you can bring a friend for FREE upon the purchase of your first trial pass.

Gordon Glee Club will have a replacement MD from term two, 2018 while current MD Tiana Barenaba is away for the rest of the year for personal reasons. To ensure our Gordon Gleeks are still in the very best of hands, we have managed to organise the amazing Philip de Villier (a professional music director, arranger, composer and performer) to fill in Tiana's rather large shoes. Philip is definitely going to be working some of his magic on the Gordon Gleeks. He has worked with various choirs and community singing projects, is a performer of the Mosman Musical Society and will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to our Gordon Gleeks. We look forward to what Philip will do with the Gordon Gleeks over these next three terms.
Up to 25 Gleeks from our NSW Glee Clubs will be performing at the upcoming World Voice Day event on Saturday 7 April. The special day is celebrated all around the world in over 40 countries and we're proud to be part of this major event.
Held at the amazing Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, we invite everyone to come along and support this highly entertaining evening. The group will be singing our latest Glee anthem ‘THIS IS ME (from The Greatest Showman)’, Time of My Life (Dirty Dancing) and John Farnham’s classic You’re the Voice. We wish them all the best of luck as they sing alongside some of the country’s best voices and emerging talent! More details and tickets - https://www.facebook.com/events/283964852139747/ You heard right. Kerrie (our beloved Wynnum Music Director) and a group of Gleeks decided to sing up a storm at a recent Wednesday End of Month/Term Drinks and the manager of the venue (Manly Deck) couldn’t help but love what he heard. So, like all good managers, he’s wanting to offer Wynnum Glee Club a regular performance spot. However, we might be giving this an even better twist where we’ll also get the crowd involved. Wednesday 9 May! Save the date Wynnum Gleeks and tell your friends and family to come on down to The Manly Deck. Hopefully this is the start of a very beautiful phenomenon.
After a discussion with some fellow Gleeks post the Blaxland World Voice Day rehearsal, a group of fellow Gleeks and I decided to hold our first theme night for this year’s 6th Annual Glee Goes Solo Night. It’s all about Aussie artists and Australian music. If you really start to think about it, you’ll be stumped for song choice. INXS, Tina Arena, Delta Goodrem, AC/DC, Peter Allen, The Seekers, Silverchair, Savage Garden, Cold Chisel, John Farnham, Jessica Mauboy, Guy Sebastian, The Whitlams, Daryl Brathwaite just to name a few. The hour or so drive from Blaxland to Marrickville really sparked great excitement. I truly believe we need to continually support Australian music and artists. There's a real abundance of talent and with major venues in the Sydney live music scene closing down, it's important we find ways to remind ourselves of what is happening. We need support, get creative and create spaces for new and emerging artists to thrive and grow. Otherwise the future of new Australian music will never be heard in the best way possible - LIVE!
The lovely Merilyn Steele who heads up our Mascot Glee Club is really a big retro fan. After spending term one singing songs from this particular era, we thought why not let term two be the opportunity for us to sing classic hits from the more retro era. Really make it a thing and let other Gleeks from other Glee Clubs drop in to sing some great classics. Expect a bit of Bowie, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, ABBA, The Beatles, Mamas and Papas, Boney M and much more. There will be a cross over of 60’s, 70’s and 80’s music to sing, so be sure to keep Tuesday 24 April, 7:30 - 8:30pm free, and join the Mascot crew. Song suggestions are most welcome too.
We're super excited to announce that our second location of the Adult Glee Club will be in Gordon. Feel free to let friends, family and fellow community associates know about the new venue. It's time to head over the bridge and bring our Glee excitement to the Northern part of Sydney. The venue in Gordon is the Uniting Church which is home to various community classes and events, so launching the Adult Glee Club here ties in nicely to the community.
It's the start of 2016 and plans to expand the Adult Glee Club on a national level is underway. First off is building this website. Thanks to weebly website builder it seems relatively easy to drag and drop various content and image elements onto the site. It seems to be responsive and user-friendly for mobile type devices with a clean and uncluttered look. Would love to get any feedback about content you'd like to see on the site or ways to improve.
